Nicola Moran | ISACS Profile

Nicola Moran is a contemporary interdisciplinary performer, teacher and jeweller from Dundalk, Co. Louth. A graduate of Ulster University, Belfast with a BA Hons in fine and applied art, specialising in jewellery. After working as a metalsmith for a fashion designer in New York, she decided to turn her artistry and passion to nurture the body. This took her on a return visit to India where she studied at Arhanta yoga ashram and qualified as a yoga teacher. Sparking her exploration of the body and movement.

It was during her time living in New York that Nicola delved into the partner acrobatic and aerial dance world. This evolved, taking her to Spain training intensively with partner acrobatics, then Croatia, Germany, regularly training in the Netherlands and most recently circus school in Israel.

Her dynamic background has flavoured her creative projects. Performing with an electro-punk band the Periods for the last two years, incorporating music, aerial dance and spoken word. Nicola also collaborated with the band Pine and the Pilcrow, choreographing and performing a partner acrobatic piece with co-performer Peter Moran for the Scene and heard festival, Smock Alley.

Most recently her creativity and artistry earned her a part on Sevesfeathers residency in the Netherlands to create a street show ‘In the city still’ for Spoffin Festival.

Additionally, Nicola is a passionate aerial arts instructor and yoga teacher. She has received her training from Aerial Cirque, Dublin and continues to teach there. Currently, Nicola resides in Dublin, teaching, performing and creating jewellery in her space at the Irish Design Shop.

'I expect the delve program to broaden my knowledge and social network within the circus community which will be hugely beneficial and I am excited to take part in quality acrobatic and aerial workshops. Watch inspiring shows and meet other artists.'

'The DELVE programme is a fantastic opportunity for me to explore and experience all of the many weird and wonderful spectacles that combine to become the beating heart of Irish creativity and performance.

Being on the cusp of this eclectic and often eccentric world is not enough for me any more and I can't wait to delve in and fully immerse myself in creativity, colour, wonder and spectacle that the weekend will no doubt deliver. I  very thankful to have been considered for DELVE 18 and look forward to the feast for the eyes and soul that The National Circus Festival has to offer.'
